Community Blog Topic: What is Your Favorite Playable Race?

WoW Insider's Community Blog Topic this week is What is your favorite playable race?
Her retirement outfit.

Back in BC, I was raiding on my Troll Priest when my friends rerolled allies. I loved my Troll and hated the Alliance! Everytime we had made lowbie allies before, I was the first to get bored when we always rolled humans. While they all eventually had pretty high level ally alts in Vanilla, my highest was 7 or 8.

BFF and I had always made fun of Draenei when they were introduced for BC. Really?! Fat space cows?! Both having started as Undead Warlocks in Vanilla, with him moving to Orc Shaman (Oh, how I mocked this choice... little did I know the love I would find for them) and me to Troll Priest. My Troll instantly felt like who I was. I loved it! Undead warlock was dead to me. Literally. I barely logged on her for years.

A friend wanted to show me his Draenei Priest one day. Ewwwwww, Draenei! So off I went to meet his T6 priest while I was still mostly in T5. She was beautiful! I had never seen a Draenei look so good, I don't think I had actually seen many Draenei Priests before. And Rivendare's Deathcharger?! AMG!

It was just a few days before I rolled one of my own. I was leveling her fast and it was soon clear she was going to be my main for Wrath. Once she was 70, I managed to pug a few raids. I picked up a few Absolution pieces but I expected the mount to be challenging. So I ran Stratholme as much as I could for the mount. It didn't happen in BC's 50+ runs. Or Wrath's 400+ runs. It actually wasn't until Cata and my Draenei Priest had become a Goblin that I finally got the mount while running Rav's alt through. I wasn't as excited as I should have been because I thought she would never get to use it as a Draenei.

At the end of Cata, Veluxia switched back! Her first transmog as her old self was to the tier set that started it all.

Luxygaga started life as a Draenei too. In Wrath she became my favourite alt but she got left behind when I faction changed my main. I rerolled another Luxygaga. An Orc (after all the time I had spent teasing BFF about his Orc love) but this version didn't get much love and really just existed to farm for me. One day while pet battling, I made a new friend and soon the original Draenei Luxygaga was an Orc and she looked gooooood!

Faction change: Draenei to Orc
I would have to say Draenei are my favourite Alliance race and Orcs are my fave for Horde. Females only. I have no love for the males of any race in the World of Warcraft.

Someday I hope any race can become a member of either faction and I can play a Horde Draenei.

  1. I'm with you on having race's being playable on either faction! It would be so wonderful!!

  2. Oh, thank goodness, I'm not the only one who dressed up my Priest for retirement! I remember when Wrath was about to be released I put my nicest threads onto my Night Elf Priest and parked her in what was soon to become the Death Knight starting area. She was my first ever raiding character, but I was just constantly asked to heal when I preferred my Rogue and I grew to hate her. A few years later I dusted her off, turned her into a Draenei (Definitely my fave Alliance race) and then promptly abandoned her again when we switched to Horde. I'm so fickle, it seems :P

    1. I still feel guilty when I log on my Troll Priest! I level her each expansion with the intention of playing her in some capacity but it never happens! She has been on a few different servers, one of them funnily enough was Saurfang when Dath'Remar had free transfers at the end of BC. I moved her off so my Draenei could have her name. Barthilas is her current retirement village!

  3. I will always feel sentimental about my first level 60 (which was my tauren hunter) and alliance priest who was actually my trial run for Cymre before BC.
